Men's smart casual sandals: how to wear them in Australia
Men's sandals look smart casual when the straps are clean, the colour is plain and the rest of the outfit is tidy. Pair black or brown buckled sandals with linen trousers, chinos or tailored shorts and a polo or knit shirt.
Choose a plain, solid colour
Black and brown go with most men's wardrobes. Our men's Madrid has two adjustable buckle straps and a cow leather inner, in black or brown, at $59.90 AUD at the time of writing. Our Valencia comes in the same two colours.
What to wear them with
- Linen trousers. Cream or sand with black sandals is an easy summer dinner outfit.
- Chinos. Roll them once if they sit on top of the straps.
- Tailored shorts. Stop just above the knee and add a polo or a knit shirt.
- Dark jeans. Fine for a casual lunch if the hem sits clear of the foot.
Are sandals acceptable at a smart casual event?
It depends on the venue and the dress code. They are usually fine at a backyard lunch, a beach club or a casual restaurant in summer. For a formal dress code or a workplace with safety rules, check first or choose closed shoes.
Which sandals should men keep for the beach?
Keep a washable pair for sand and water, so your smarter pair stays dry. Our one-piece EVA Malaga is washable and costs $49.90 AUD, and our Leon is an EVA slide at $69.90 AUD. Read what are EVA sandals? for more.
Do men's sandals come in larger sizes?
Many of our men's styles go up to EU 45. Sizes vary by style, so check the product page and our EU to Australian size guide.
