What are EVA sandals?

EVA sandals are made with ethylene-vinyl acetate, a light, flexible foam-like material used in many sandal soles. Some sandals only have an EVA outsole, while one-piece EVA sandals are made almost entirely from it, which is why they can be washed.

What is EVA made of?

EVA is short for ethylene-vinyl acetate, a type of plastic that can be moulded into soft, light shapes. It is widely used in footwear, and it can feel similar to rubber in the hand, which is why EVA sandals are often called rubber sandals.

Two kinds of EVA sandal

One-piece EVA sandals

The upper, lining and sole are all EVA. Our women's Ibiza and men's Malaga are made this way. Both are washable and cost $49.90 AUD at the time of writing. We list them as rubber sandals because that is how many people search for them, but the material is EVA.

Sandals with an EVA outsole

The sole underneath is EVA, and the upper and inner are other materials. Our Madrid has an EVA outsole, a synthetic upper and adjustable buckle straps. Our Soria clog has an EVA outsole and a cow leather inner.

Can you wash EVA sandals?

One-piece EVA sandals like Ibiza and Malaga are washable, so they suit days at the beach or by the pool. Rinse off sand or salt and leave them to dry away from direct heat. Sandals with a synthetic or leather inner need more care, so avoid soaking them.

Are EVA sandals good for the beach?

A washable one-piece pair is an easy choice for sand and water because there is no fabric or leather to dry out. For a smarter look at lunch afterwards, a buckled pair with an EVA outsole may suit you better. Our guide to choosing summer sandals in Australia compares the options.

How do I know which sandals are EVA?

Check the details on each product page. We list the sole, upper and inner there, so you can see what each pair is made from before you buy.
